Color of Love: A Story of a Mixed-Race Jewish Girl by Marra Gad
Ms. Gad is the daughter of an unmarried, traditional Jewish woman and an African-American man. She was put up for adoption by a rabbi in New York and raised by her adopted Jewish parents in Chicago. She was a member of a north side Reform congregation and went to Olin Sang Ruby camp. The memoir is about her life in Chicago and her choice to help her racist, abusive, estranged great-aunt who suffers from Alzheimer's Disease. This unlikely connection slowly erases her aunt's prejudices, allowing them to develop a loving relationship. This memoir presents a little seen view of race relations in Judaism and the United States.
